Pathfinder Guidebook · FYE 100 Module 4 · Your Academic Toolkit
10 Essential Skills you'll build

Why this matters

You're surrounded by more information than any generation before you, and more of it is wrong, misleading, or designed to grab your attention rather than inform you.

This module helps you build your academic toolkit: study strategies that actually work, a framework for evaluating what you read, and a direct look at where AI helps, and where it doesn't.

Merit reminder: Merit Activity #1 is due with this module

Find an activity, then submit your reflection to the Merit Activity #1 link in Blackboard. Check Blackboard for the due date. The Merit Guide has your options, what proof to include, and how to write your reflection.

What you'll be able to do

By the end of this module:

  1. Objective A: I can identify and apply at least one evidence-based study strategy and describe what I noticed about my learning.

You'll show this in Mile Marker #4
  2. Objective B: I can evaluate a source or AI-generated response using the SIFT method and explain whether I would use it and why.

You'll show this in the AI Chat: Is This Legit?
  3. Objective C: I can apply at least one digital organization strategy to manage my course files.

You'll practice this in your course activities
  4. Objective D: I can recognize AI creep in my own work and describe honestly how I used AI.

You'll show this in Mile Marker #4
  5. Objective E: I can write one SMART goal for continuing a study strategy or academic habit this semester.

You'll show this in Mile Marker #4
