Learning in Blackboard

Find course materials, submit work, and check feedback. Your instructor’s Start Here area explains how your course is organized.

Your first visit to a course

Start with these six stepsFind your starting point, course expectations, and first deadline.
  1. Find Start Here. Read the welcome and follow your instructor’s opening directions.
  2. Read the syllabus and schedule. Check how the course is organized, how grades work, and what participation is expected.
  3. Find instructor contact information. Note the preferred way to ask questions, response timeframe, and available help times.
  4. Check materials and technology. Confirm books, access codes, required software, and any testing or campus requirements before purchasing or setting up tools.
  5. Identify the first deadlines. Put them in your calendar. Read the actual directions; the Blackboard calendar may not include every requirement.
  6. Complete any opening activity. Look for an introduction, syllabus activity, or practice submission. Follow its directions and confirm it was submitted if required.

Course layouts vary. If you cannot find your starting point or the directions are unclear, ask your instructor early.
