Mile Marker #12: My Story to Share

Your final reflection, with support, and a form you can fill in and save.

About 20 minutes 4 of 5 in this module

The last Mile Marker on the trail, and the one only you could write.

You started the semester with a reflection on where you were. This one is about where you are now, and what you'd want to pass along to someone just starting out.

This module is your main working time for finishing your STAR(T) Stories, so this Mile Marker is intentionally short. Take 15 to 20 minutes, be honest, and let it be what it is.

AI use: AI-supported

You may use AI to ask you questions that help you remember and get specific. Your reflection must be in your own words. AI wasn't there for your semester. You were.

See the AI Course Policy in the syllabus.

Where to submit

Submit your reflection in the Mile Marker #12 assignment in Blackboard. Check Blackboard for the due date. You may write your response or record it (video or audio), whichever you prefer.

Writing it? The fill-in form at the bottom of this page saves your answers as a PDF named "Mile Marker #12" that you can upload to the assignment.

Prefer paper? A printable handout for this Mile Marker is with the assignment in Blackboard. Fill it in by hand, then upload a photo or scan.

Before you start: a quick look back

Skim your Mile Markers from Modules 1 through 11. You don't need to reread everything. Just notice:

  • Challenges you worked through
  • Habits that improved
  • Academic or personal wins
  • Skills you strengthened
  • Shifts in your confidence or mindset
  • How you think about AI

The Look Back tool puts your Mile Markers in one list and gives you a place to jot down what stands out.

Your final reflection

Question 1

Growth

Open your Mile Marker #1 and compare. Name two or three specific ways you've grown this semester, academically, personally, or professionally. If your thinking about AI has changed since Mile Marker #1, you can include that too.

Example: "I used to put off everything until the last minute. Tracking my time in Module 3 showed me where my hours were going, and I've kept using a weekly schedule since then."

A strong answer

Names two or three specific changes and compares them to where you started.

Question 2

Lessons Learned

What do you know now that you wish you'd known at the start of the semester? Then name one habit, strategy, or tool from this course that you'll actually keep using.

Example: "I wish I'd known how many resources were on campus. I didn't ask for help for weeks because I didn't know who to ask. I'm keeping the 4C Check for big decisions."

A strong answer

Names one real lesson and one habit, strategy, or tool you'll keep, and says why.

Question 3

Words of Wisdom

Write a short message to your Week 1 self, or to a future FYE 100 student. What would you want them to know?

Example: "Don't wait until you're overwhelmed to use the support that's already around you. It's there the whole time."

A strong answer

Sounds like you, and comes from something you actually lived this semester.

Question 4

Still Growing

Name one area where you still want to grow, and one concrete next step you'll take.

Example: "I still freeze up when I have to talk to an instructor. Next step: go to one office hour in my math class before finals."

A strong answer

Names one honest area and a next step you could put on your calendar.

How it's scored

Mile Markers are scored on reflection, engagement, and effort, not perfection. A strong reflection sounds like a real look back at your own semester, not a generic wrap-up.
