Mile Marker #3: Managing My Time & Energy

The assignment, with support, and a form you can fill in and save.

About 12 minutes 9 of 10 in this module

You have the same 168 hours as everyone else, but you don't have the same brain, the same responsibilities, or the same energy reserves.

This Mile Marker isn't about building the perfect schedule. It's about starting to understand how you actually work: your patterns, your energy, and your limits. You'll come back to what you learn here when you build your capstone project.

AI use: AI-supported

You may use AI as a thinking partner to explore your ideas. Work with what it gives you, then write your responses in your own voice.

See the AI Course Policy in the syllabus. Want a place to start? Try the optional AI thinking partner prompt.

Where to submit

Submit your responses in the Mile Marker #3 assignment in Blackboard. Check Blackboard for the due date.

Want help keeping it organized? The fill-in form at the bottom of this page saves your answers as a PDF named "Mile Marker #3" that you can upload to the assignment.

You may also attach your time log or week plan if you like. It's optional.

Prefer paper? A printable handout for this Mile Marker is with the assignment in Blackboard. Fill it in by hand, then upload a photo or scan.

Respond to each question

Question 1

Your Patterns

Look at your Where My Time Goes log.

  • When were you most focused or productive? What was different about that time?
  • Where did time slip away? Name one pattern or time-waster you found.
  • Why do you think it happens, and what does it cost you?
A strong answer

Uses your log to name one real pattern or time-waster, explains why it happens, and says what it costs you. Not a general statement that could apply to anyone.

Question 2

Your Energy

Think about the five batteries: physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual.

  • Which one is most depleted right now?
  • What's draining it?
  • What is one small, realistic action you could take this week to start recharging it?
A strong answer

Names one battery, explains what's draining it in your life right now, and describes one small action that's realistic for this week.

Question 3

Your Week

Look at the week you mapped in My Week at a Glance.

  • What are your non-negotiables this week?
  • Where did you put your most important work, and why there?
  • What is one part of your plan that reflects what you value most?
A strong answer

Names your real non-negotiables, explains why your most important work landed where your energy is best, and connects one part of the plan to something you value.

Question 4

Your Self-Knowledge

This one doesn't have a wrong answer.

  • What is one thing you're learning about yourself this semester: about how your brain works, how your energy moves, or how your days tend to go? Why does it matter to pay attention to it?
  • After reading this module's lessons, did anything describe how your brain works in a way you hadn't had words for before? You don't have to name a diagnosis. Just notice what resonated.
  • What is one small habit or adjustment you'll try? Why is it realistic for your life right now, and how will you know if it's working?
A strong answer

Names one specific thing you're learning about yourself and why it matters, and describes one small, realistic habit with a clear way to tell whether it's working. Honest beats polished.

Optional: AI thinking partner

If you'd like help thinking through your answers before you write, try this prompt in any AI tool:

Try this prompt

"Ask me questions to help me understand how my energy and focus work throughout the day, and what that means for how I should structure my time."

Use what's useful. Your final responses must be in your own words.

How it's scored

Full credit goes to responses that are honest, specific, and self-aware, written in your own voice using complete sentences and a college-appropriate tone. Generic answers that could apply to anyone won't earn full credit. The goal is self-knowledge, not a perfect plan.
