Register Early for Next Semester

Early gets the classes you need. Late gets what's left.

About 4 minutes 5 of 7 in this module

Students who register early get the classes they need. Students who wait get what's left.

Classes fill faster than most first-year students expect, especially general education courses and courses your program requires. You've explored careers and built an academic plan. Now it's time to act on it.

Know when registration opens

Registration for the next semester opens well before the current one ends. Look up the date on the OCTC academic calendar and put it in your calendar now, with a reminder a week ahead.

Meet with your Success Coach first

Your Success Coach is your best resource for a schedule that works for your program and your life. Book an appointment well before registration opens, not the week of. Together you can:

  • Finalize your academic plan and confirm your program requirements
  • Choose the right courses for next semester, in the right order
  • Look at summer options if you want to get ahead
  • Build a schedule that fits your goals, your commitments, and your life

Bring these with you

Why early matters

  • You get the classes you need before they fill up.
  • You avoid waitlists and last-minute scrambling.
  • You stay on track toward finishing your credential.
  • You head into the break, and the next semester, with less to worry about.

Your future self will thank you for doing this now.
